In college, I was the girl that never used sunscreen at the beach, moisturized in the morning or took makeup off before bed. I know – terrible! If I could go back and tell myself one thing, it would be to start taking care of your skin. I’ve never had an acne problem, just the occasional pimple or two that would surprise me in the morning, but towards the end of 2017, I noticed my face looking extremely dry and flaky. My chin, especially was the worst. From not moisturizing or exfoliating, my skin would peel and honestly looked awful. I would try to cover it up with makeup, but at that point it just looked like caked on dead skin (so gross). That one face mask sheet a week while watching The Bachelor just wasn’t cutting it!
So, as soon as the clock hit midnight and we all rung in the New Year, I made a promise to myself that this would be the year I was going to stop being lazy and start taking better care of myself – my skin being the number one thing. I was just tired of pounding on the foundation, taking extra time on Facetune to fix the area under my chin or putting on ‘a little’ makeup to go grocery shopping. Eyeliner and Foundation are my go-to’s. I’ve kept up with my resolution and it’s crazy how my face has gone from dull and lifeless to bright and alive in just 31 days!
I was/am super excited to be a part of Vanity Planet’s #FreshFaceForAll campaign! Their brand mantra is “Embrace Your Beauty” and I would love to encourage all of you, and even myself, to feel comfortable in your own skin. WE GOT THIS!
The Vanity Planet Glowspin brush has been one of the tools that has helped me do just that! The brush comes with three attachable brush heads (at first I was like why does someone need more than one brush, but they all definitely have their purpose), a traveling case, has two different speeds and comes in three fun colors.
GLOWSKIN ATTACHABLE BRUSHES
- Daily Cleansing Facial Brush – soft bristles that are designed to cleanse your face and can be used daily
- Exfoliating Facial Brush – firmer bristles that are designed to lift away debris and dead skin cells. This shouldn’t be used more than 2-3 times a week (My FAVORITE brush)
- Silicone Facial Brush – soft, hypo-allergenic bristles that can be used on dry and sensitive skin types
My skin routine all of a sudden went from 0 to 8 steps overnight. I start off by taking my makeup off with a makeup remover wipe to get the majority of my makeup off. Then, I move on to the Daily Cleanser Facial Brush and use my cleanser to get rid of any makeup or dirt that was left behind. I use this brush everyday and sometimes even twice.
Now depending on the day, my next step is the Exfoliating Facial Brush. Like I mentioned before, this is probably my favorite. I use this brush on the second speed so it reallllllly gets into my pores and I can feel the dirt and dead skin get flushed away! Ahhh, it just feels so good, haha! As soon as I’m done exfoliating, I use a cotton circle to apply my toner. I do want to mention that I only do these two steps 2-3 times a week because it can be very harsh on the skin and on days I use the exfoliating brush, I use the Silicone Facial Brush instead of the daily cleanser brush because it’s a little softer on the skin.
After all of the that, I apply an Age-Defense Treatment Lotion, Rosehip Oil, Age-Defense Eye Cream and my Moisturizer with SPF 40. Also, on days I exfoliate (and have extra time) I do a sheet mask. It feels so good after you scrubbed everything away!
SKIN CARE STEPS
- Makeup Remover Cloth
- Cleanser: your favorite facial cleanser and use the Daily Cleanser Facial Brush (or Silicone Facial Brush)
- Exfoliate: your favorite exfoliating cleanser and use the Exfoliating Facial Brush (2-3 times a week)
- Age-Defense Treatment Lotion
- Rosehip Oil
- Face Mask Sheet: usually on days I exfoliate or when I just want to treat myself!
- Age-Defense Eye Cream
- Age-Defense Moisturizer with SPF 40
Now I know that this sounds like a lot of time and effort, but it really isn’t. I never thought I would be the one to add an extra 10 minutes to her morning/night routine, but I’m so happy that I did. Hiding behind my eyeliner and foundation is a thing of the past, and don’t get me wrong I still wear it all of the time, but I don’t feel like it’s my security blanket. I no longer have flaky, dead skin around my chin (thank goodness!), I feel confident walking around with no makeup AND on days when I do wear makeup, I feel like my foundation goes on smoothly and doesn’t look thick or dry. BONUS!
It’s never too late to start taking care of your skin and if you don’t feel like starting with eight steps a day, that’s fine, work your way towards it! Glow On Girl, make 2018 the year for you and the year to Embrace Your Beauty!
